In the following lines, we study "The Virgin of the Carmelites", an oil on panel painting preserved in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid. The painting was made in Flanders in the first decades of the sixteenth century and nowadays it is still considered as anonymous. In this article we have reviewed the different authorship hypotheses that have been proposed concerning the piece. Nevertheless, we are now introducing a new one, namely, that the author is the Master of 1518. Besides the questions related to authorship are developed, the represented iconography is also analyzed.
