Criminal regulation of pornography in modern legislation
Abstract
A great deal of the difficulty in discussing pornography results from lack of agreement over what is meant by the term. Pornographic material perpetrates images of women as sexual objects and, thus, can victimize women directly or indirectly. The lack of consensus over the definition contributes to society's difficulty in determining the content of pornography. Pornographic production is more easily accessible than in the past, mainly because the Internet has created new opportunities for downloading and distributing such material. This practice presents unique challenges for the enforcement and prosecution of law, since crimes committed over the Internet are often envisioned as being borderless.
