Impact of technological innovation on the labour market and need creation for new occupational profiles

Abstract

The essential issue this paper aspires to answer is whether technology will replace man in the process of work? Initially, the advent of the Industrial Revolution itself was interpreted as a negative impact of technology on unemployment, which deprived the workforce of employment, and now the advancement of electronics and robotics is perceived as an agent of similar technological change that will abolish the unskilled workforce, while increasing the need for skilled workers and expertise. Changes in industrial demand for these new, specific occupational profiles as well as technical innovations represent key factors of the job market in the future. It is in this emerging situation that formal and informal educational institutions have the opportunity to effectively and relevantly respond to a given challenge by creating the correspondingly adapted study programs as well as short-term certification and qualification programs, thus providing the necessary knowledge and skills to the workforce of the future.
