The purpose of this study is to review the development and current state of local music teaching materials in China, summarizing the characteristics of teaching material across different periods. The study primarily examines 36 local music teaching materials from various regions, dating from 1934 to 2022, as the main objects of research. The results indicate that throughout the long-term evolution of local music teaching materials, the structure of these materials has progressively improved alongside advances in education and teaching levels, exhibiting an overall trend towards scientific development. The selection of content within teaching materials has been shaped by the intended function of the materials, showing regular patterns of change. These materials serve various aesthetic, political, and cultural purposes, which are influenced by educational philosophies and national curriculum standards. Although some teaching materials exhibit apparent issues, the general trajectory of development is forward-moving. The content of teaching materials is becoming increasingly rich, and their structure more sound. This research will facilitate a better understanding of the development process of local music teaching materials, provide insight into the current status of local music, and offer a valuable reference and foundation for future compilation of teaching materials.
