The onset of cancer means a significant and unfavourable change in the situation of a person, as the disease entails numerous complaints, involves invasive diagnostic and treatment procedures, and constitutes a considerable obstacle in the realisation of one’s various plans making it necessary to abandon some aims in one’s life or at least to alter them. Having cancer fosters social isolation, which results in one’s feeling of being alone in the face of the disease. The aim of the work presented here is to introduce the issue of the solitude of the patient battling against cancer, as well as to discuss the list of practical solutions that help in handling negative solitude and which are implemented by the Fight Cancer Academy, Toruń branch.
