Online Right-wing Extremism in Romania

Abstract

Considering that Romanian right-wing extremists manifest themselves outside the electoral political environment and the current legislation incriminates the promotion of fascist, racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic ideologies, one should take into consideration if and how the far right uses the online environment in order to accomplish its goals. The data used in this study was collected within a monitoring of the Romanian online environment. Hence, this study aims to highlight aspects regarding the beliefs, rhetoric, identity and organization of right-wing extremists, such as these are reflected by the online. Our analysis will also include observations about the offline activities of right wing extremists.
