The article considers the problem of selfdetermination representatives of contemporary Ukrainian intelligentsia. Problem of selfidentification becomes particularly acute in the conditions of crisis, socioeconomic and political reforms. Marked postSoviet transformations provoked serious changes in the identity of many representatives of the intelligentsia, which led to the formation of different trajectories of overcoming the crisis of social identity. But while discourses on the role and place of intellectuals in the modern Ukrainian society are маргиналии public consciousness. Here we can distinguish two main discourse. Representatives of the first of them to prove that the intellectuals, like before, there is; representatives of the second that she had gone in history, and its place was taken by other social groups, for example, a group of professionals. Draws attention to the fact that a particular difficulty in the study of the intelligentsia is the presence of her figure virtuality. That is, on the one hand, it is present in the life of society in the form of cultural phenomena, moral imperatives, and behavior patterns. But on the other hand, the intelligentsia does not coincide with any real professional, or other group. Based on this, the consciousness becomes the most important formative component of this group and becomes the subject of our study.
