In the 1650’s, political activist Francisco Martínez de Mata run a campaign of agitation in Seville, with the goal of promoting the national industry. The hagiographic drama El rey más perfeto, by Antonio Enríquez Gómez, who was in hiding and was prosecuted by the Inquisition, brings to the stage many of Martínez de Mata's ideas. In 1660-1661, after a controversy on these proposals, the tracks of the urban agitator were lost, while Antonio Enríquez Gómez was arrested by the Inquisition, and died three years later in Triana’s prison.
