Often, the word „marginal”, – with its derivative „marginality” – evokes a world beyond the borders of our daily existence, somewhere else, far from the center of our lives, towards the abstract territories of the geographical, social, or human periphery. But beyond its adjectival meaning, marginality sums up a series of socio-cultural, economic, political, etc. factors, capable of influencing negatively and independently of one’s own will, the life of an individual or a group, from its well-being to the loss of freedom and even suppression of life. We propose an incursion into the social geography of the marginals during Ceausescu`s regime, analyzing, briefly, certain typologies and instances of the everyday man that undermined the cohesion of the socialist life unsynchronized with the imperatives of the „new man”.
