In the study, the Branch Library of Medicine examined use and usefulness of eight fee-based and seven free information resources for students in the last year of their study, the sub-internship or final year medical education (“Praktisches Jahr”). The aim of the study was to find out which of these 15 tools support decision making in diagnosis and therapy. The study ran from May 2017 to April 2018 and was administered via a closed Facebook group. The “Praktisches Jahr” (PJ) represents a turning point because as a member of the medical team the student is deeply involved in health care for the first time. The challenge for the library is how to supply the PJ students with handy resources. Ttwo fee-based resources were especially useful for the PJ students: the learning and examination portal Amboss and UpToDate, the widely used clinical decision system. The library’s commitment to sub-interns was seen as useful and important.
