Carteia, estudio de «la moneda del pescador»

Abstract

Among the many mintings that the city of Carteia struck, a type of reverse stands out with a very interesting and unusual typology back then; it is about the fisherman´s coin, whose importance lies not only in the peculiarity of the depicted model, but in the connection that we can observe with marine and fishing thematic, and thus, with the economy of the city. For the suitable iconographic study of this coin we should take into account several economic factors, although the essential thing is to understand the Carteia rooted connection with the sea, what made possible this unique minting.
