The teaching of French as a foreign language (FFL) in non governmental structures relies largely on volunteers, who often have no training in FFL and sometimes no teaching experience. In spite of the support of the structures, they find themselves largely helpless in the face of the heavy task of teaching migrant learners. An experiment in co-teaching between a professional trainer and a new volunteer was set up in the framework of a course in a social center in order to train the new volunteer. On the basis of this experiment, the aim is to analyze how co-teaching, considered as tutoring, can constitute a training tool for new volunteers who teach FFL in a non governmental context. What are the advantages and limitations? Under what conditions can a training system integrating co-teaching be relevant in this context?
