THE COMMANDING STAFF OF THE GENDARMES CORPS IN THE KALUGA PROVINCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX — EARLY XX CENTURIES
Abstract
In the article, the authors set a goal to study the socio-biographical characteristics of the representatives of the highest level of the gendarmerie of the Kaluga province in the 1860s — 1917 and to find out how the rotation of the commanding staff of the Kaluga provincial gendarmerie department was carried out. The average age of assuming the post of the head of the Kaluga gendarmerie and the average length of stay in this post for 7 people have been established. Based on a wide range of sources, their career path has been traced. A detailed analysis of all kinds of incentives and awards received by senior officers of the Kaluga gendarmerie, both during their stay in the Kaluga province, and for the entire period of military service and career in a Separate corps of gendarmes is given. It is established that none of the gendarmerie officers presented in the article was a native of the Kaluga province. Each of the gendarmerie officers was transferred to the Kaluga province according to the order of the commander of a Separate Corps of Gendarmes. The authors present a point of view explaining the frequent transfer of political police officers from one province to another, and analyze it on the basis of the available service characteristics of individual personalities of the Kaluga political investigation. The class origin of some Kaluga gendarmes, their educational and professional level is determined. Among them were participants of military companies: the Crimean and Russian-Turkish wars. Information is provided on the content received by gendarmes, benefits and allowances.
