ABOUT THE TRADITION OF BILDUNGSROMAN AND ITS REFLECTIONS ON THE PRESENT DAY

In this study, “Bildungsroman” (the novel of formation), which is an essential novel tradition and the oldest novel type, will be emphasized; and its subject areas,connections with modern-day and the problems it deals will be mentioned by discussing the brief history of bildungsroman, of which masterpieces was given in 18th century Germany, especially, by J.W. v. Goethe, made a great contribution tothe world literature; and move German literature and German novel into the world literature. Recognition and reading of Bildungsroman in Turkish, for example Orhan Pamuk’s “Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları”, could take place by the first novel translations, of which French education and development novels. In this regard, examining bildungsroman from the point of etymon will enable us to be closely acquainted with a great novel tradition.
