The divine punishment. The destruction of Anco-Anco (Charcas, 16th century)

Abstract

A natural catastrophe that took place in the 1580s is interpreted in the 17th century as a manifestation of God’s wrath. After the analysis of different versions of narrative construction, the present study seeks to confront them with a traditional pre-Hispanic tale. Comparisons are also sought with a disaster that happened in the second decade of the 21st century.
