Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of neurological disabilities caused by leprosy and the determinants of its appearance in a health unit in Anápolis/Goiás/Brazil from 2011 to 2013. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out by analyzing the records of skin and neurological evaluations contained in the records of leprosy patients attending a primary health unit in Anápolis/Goiás/Brazil from 2011 to 2013. Results: The prevalence of disability was 64.4% in the 242 patients evaluated, and these patients had predominantly degree of deformity I (92 individuals, 41.4%). One hundred and seventy-six (72.7%) had presented Multibacillary and 66 (27.3%) paucibacillary. The multivariate logistic regression analysis confirmed that age (OR: 1.04, CI: 1.01 to 1.07; p = 0.01), the presence of multibacillary (OR: 4.90; CI: 2, 11 to 11.39; p <0.0001) and education (OR: 0.56, CI: 0.32 to 0.97; p = 0.04) were independent predictors of neurological disability in leprosy. Conclusion: The prevalence of neurological disability in patients with leprosy is high in our country. Age, multibacillary presentation and education are independent predictors of disability.
