University of Prešov as an aid actor to Ukrainian refugees

Abstract

Not only did the military invasion of Ukraine at the end of February 2022 have a significant impact on the region of Europe, but it has also had far-reaching global implications. However, the direct impact of the war has been felt the most by the countries immediately adjacent to it as thousands of people began fleeing Ukraine from the very first days of the conflict. At the same time, however, this tragedy also raised a wave of enormous solidarity in the neighbouring countries, involving local municipalities, entrepreneurs, humanitarian organizations, the churches and thousands of volunteers. This article focuses on such assistance within Slovakia, especially in its eastern part, with the aim of evaluating the activities of the University of Prešov as one of the important actors in assisting refugees from Ukraine.
