This article is a study of the preferred activity of children in early childhood, based on the ideas of Vygotsky, Alexander, Luria, Leontieve and Elkonin (authors affiliated with Historical-Cultural Psychology). Its general objective is to know the favorite games and games of children from 6 to 11 years old, seeking to understand the relationship of these activities with the learning and development process of children. The methodology that supported this investigation has as epistemological focus the descriptive research, with empirical data, scientific methods of collection and analysis of data presented with theoretical basis. As for the approach, this is a mixed research with qualitative and quantitative aspects. The data collection techniques used were bibliographic analysis and interview. The field research was conducted at Antonio Bispo de Oliveira Municipal School, located in the Massapê District, Feira Grande, Alagoas, Brazil. The subjects involved in the research were 36 children of both sexes, aged from 6 to 11 years old, who studied from 1st to 5th grade. The results indicate that playing is the favorite activity of children in any environment they are in and that games with explicit rules are the favorite games of children in this age group.
