Despite the deeply rooted presence of classical music concerts in our culture and the significant growth in music management as a discipline, there is a striking shortage of theoretical reflections on music programming. This article, written from the programmer’s point of view, aims to contribute to this field. The first section presents an historical overview of concerts; the second outlines the most important tendencies in music programming, particularly in the Anglo-Saxon world; while the third analyses the main challenges a music programmer is faced with today.
