And the square became ready for the military leaders to carry out the last mission, which culminated in the military coup d'état of March 31, 1964. لعبت الولايات المتحدة الامريكية دوراً بارزاً في دعم الانقلاب العسكري في البرازيل بعد ان وردت معلومات استخبارية تفيد بان الشيوعية تسعى الى مسك زمام السلطة في البرازيل ولذلك سعت الحكومة الامريكية جاهدة لمنع وصول الشيوعيين من خلال دعم حركة الجنرالات للإطاحة بنظام الحكم في البرازيل ولذلك عمل السفير الامريكي في البرازيل رتشارد جوردون على ادارة خلية الازمة وشن حملة اعلامية مكثفة تبين من خلالها خطر الشيوعية المحدق بالبرازيل فعملت على خلق طبقة شعبية كبيرة في البرازيل تؤيد الاطاحة بنظام الحكم, الى جانب كسبها لجنرالات يتمتعون بقدرة عالية من الشعبية في الجيش البرازيلي من اجل قيادة الحركة ضد الحكومة دون ان تبين لها دور في ذلك. يبدو ان الحكومة الاميركية كان لها دور كبير في إثارة مخاوف الجنرالات العسكريين في البرازيل فيما يتعلق بسعي الشيوعيين للسيطرة على الحكم في البرازيل, والذي تمثل بأبعاد القيادات العسكرية عن مناصبها الحساسة حالو وصولهم والعمل على أستبدالهم بقيادات موالية للشيوعية, سيما وان معظم تلك القيادات كانت على علاقة سيئة بالحزب الشيوعي وقادتها السياسيين, ومن ذلك المنطلق أستغل السفير الاميركي في البرازيل تلك النقطة من اجل اثارة حفيظة ومخاوف القادة العسكريين للقيام بالانقلاب, ولذلك حصل تعاون بينهم وبين السفير الاميركي في البرازيل من اجل اجهاض تلك العملية, الى جانب القيام بأبعاد النقابات العمالية التي كانت تشكل أحد ركائز الدعم الشيوعي في الانتخابات والوصول الى السلطة من خلال أحتواء قادة تلك النقابات كما عمل فارجاس من قبل عندما شكل حزب العمال البرازيلي من اجل افشال الحزب الشيوعي, ولكن هذه المرة في احزاب عرفت بكرهها للشيوعية والعمل على اغراءهم بالمناصب النقابية وتقديم الدعم المادي والحزبي لهم وبالتالي أستطاعوا من عزل قادة الحزب الشيوعي وافشال خطط جولارت من التقرب لهم والسماح لهم بتولي مناصب مهمة في الدولة واصبحت الساحة مهيأة امام القادة العسكريين للقيام بالمهمة الاخيرة والتي تكللت بحصول الانقلاب العسكري في 31 آذار 1964.
