Religion et religiosité dans le Brésil colonial : parcours historiographique (1933-2015)
Abstract
This article provides an overview of the Brazilian historiography on so-called popular religiosity, considering both the written literature and thematic and methodological approaches to the subject. We show that, over time, there have been variations in the treatment of the subject, which vary between more generic snapshots and individual monographs of specific cases and personalities. Additionally, we aim to provide a broad sense of the archival sources available for studying the subject. Finally, we suggest that religion and religiosity should be examined alongside other issues that call for cultural analyses, for instance using anthropological approaches.
