‘Com a lei debaixo do braço’: Direitos humanos, formação e trabalho policial
Abstract
Based on a survey conducted among civil police officers in Rio Grande do Sul, this article investigates representations of such people in terms of human rights. It was found that, despite their training gradually incorporating this content, antagonism remains between the police and human rights defense organizations. In order to examine the hiatus between the new political-pedagogical guidelines and their incorporation into the line of thinking and attitudes of police officers, the article ‘With the Law in the Pocket’: Human Rights, Training and Police Work discusses concepts of police culture, formal/informal knowledge, explicit/hidden curriculum, and the fact that the institution is a relatively autonomous political player. Keywords: police, police training, human rights, social representations, police culture
