Educational intentions of high school students: regional aspect

Background. Unconditional increase in the value of education in modern Russian society, the aspiration of young people to educational institutions take place in difficult social conditions, in the conditions of the next round of reforming the education system, while maintaining the function of reproducing social inequality. For young people, the constant issues of choosing an educational institution, areas of training that will contribute to life success are relevant; opportunities for career growth after graduation, reliable promising employment. There are natural changes in expectations for future acquisitions, which depend on the education received, the motives for entering educational institutions. The purpose of the article is to analyze the substantive aspects of the educational intentions of high school students in the region, the factors that determine them. Materials and methods. The article was made on the basis of the author’s sociological study “Professional and educational intentions of high school students of Ulyanovsk region” (2021–2022). Method of information collection: quantitative (Internet questionnaire survey). Sample: 1.047 high school students. Results. The intentions of the vast majority of students to enter the university after graduation have been demonstrated (91.1 % of the number of respondents) have been demonstrated. Social characteristics of respondents influencing plans after school are analyzed. The ideas of high school students about what levels, forms of education give a person the best opportunities in life are described. The motives for choosing an educational institution, the goals of education were investigated. A comparative analysis of the professional preferences and educational intentions of schoolchildren was carried out. Conclusions. The results of the study, carried out in Ulyanovsk region, a quite typical Russian region, demonstrate the processes taking place in the minds of high school students, a high degree of rationality, maturity, self-determination of their attitudes. At the same time, they are convinced of how difficult the process of forming the educational intentions of schoolchildren is.
