Nursing paradigms and their integration in disaster risk management
Abstract
Introduction: Nursing metaparadigms provide a theoretical basis and scientific support in disaster risk management from nursing performance. Objective: To analyze the evidence in the scientific literature on the integration of nursing metaparadigms in disaster risk management. Methods: Narrative review; the terms "nursing paradigm AND risk management" and "nursing care AND disasters" were used through the academic Google search engine. Available full-text works in English, Spanish and Portuguese were selected. Based on a content analysis, 35 bibliographic references were selected. Development: Integration is analyzed from three main topics: Generic definition of metaparadigms; disaster risk management from nursing performance and nursing metaparadigms from disaster risk management. Conclusions: The main evidences on the integration of nursing metaparadigms in disaster risk management are: Its general interpretation and effective practical significance improves the nursing performance in disaster situations, from its contents and functions; it favors directing its performance to identify, propose, plan and execute the necessary care for the recovery of the health of recipients and providers of care; and it guides the activities of all those involved in disaster risk management.
