La violencia en sordina en Señales que precederán al fin del mundo de Yuri Herrera

Abstract

The paper proposes a reading of Yuri Herrera's second novel, Señales que precederán al fin del mundo (2009), in which attention is paid to the representations of violence, applying analytical guidelines provided by the philosopher Roberto Esposito. This issue is presented in its close connection with other issues (particularly migration, on which the novel offers an original vision that goes beyond the realist testimonialism) that also occupy a fundamental position in the text, in an attempt, in short, to elucidate the work as a whole, also attending to its structural ideation (highlighting the way in which the author uses, as a backbone pattern, certain stories about the access to the kingdom of the dead of the Mexica cultures, the Mictlán) and its particular linguistic complexion. In the article, this last facet is related both to the way in which Herrera's text shows the question of violence and to the reflection it raises between language and migrant experience.
