Lead is a highly harmful environmental and occupational contaminant that works by inducing oxidative stress. Chelation therapy is the only treatment available in clinics for heavy metal poisoning, but it also has several adverse effects. This work assessed the in-vitro prevention effect of synthesized piroxicam derivatives for lead poisoning using the jobs techniques and NMR spectroscopy. Subsequently, in the presence of lead nitrate, the cytoprotection of piroxicam derivatives was assessed and compared with EDTA as an effective chelator. As a result, all synthesized compounds effectively chelated the lead ions. Furthermore, possibly due to the antioxidant activity of piroxicam derivatives, these compounds were even more effective in preventing cell death caused by lead poisoning than EDTA. The results showed that piroxicam derivatives are helpful in metal poisoning treatment due to their chelation ability and antioxidant activity.
