Since centuries ago the use of the English Language has been a necessity that attracts the attention of some governments’ countries, which do not have the English Language as a native tongue because it as a universal language, useful for the scientific, economic and social development; despite all this hard work done for all the Governments, the English level in Latin America remains low, for this reason the present research has as a main goal to determine principles and techniques used by teachers of the Language Institute of the Universidad T´ecnica de Manab´ı. The author applied a survey to the teachers getting as a result that the most commonly principles and techniques used in the teaching-learning process are those belong to the grammar-translation methods.
