This study to discuss the perceptions of smokers about the genre awareness campaign against the tobacco conveyed in cigarette pack, as well reflect how identities are constructed from these readings. Our theory is based on Koch and Elias (2006) and Marcuschi (2008) about the concept of reading; Bazerman (2005), about genre; Dionísio (2005), about multimodality; and Woodward (2012) about the construction of identity. After analyzing the responses of smokers to the questionnaire, it was noticed that the identity that is highlighted is of smoker (re)affirmation, apparently without interferences from the persuasive text to the end of the habit.
