Il ruolo del teatro nell’ambito del Coordinamento Teatro e Salute Mentale della regione Emilia Romagna

Abstract

The Role of Theatre within Theatre and Mental Health Coordination in Emilia Romagna Starting from the paradigmatic change implemented by the psychiatric reform also known as “Basaglia’s Law”, the treatment perspective has undergone important transformations: the most superordinate may be considered the fact of overcoming a strictly clinical concept of psychical sufferance. In this article we reflect on how the theatre has helped cover this direction and triggered and accompanied the process of de-institutionalization of mental hospitals. Then we define the role it has played in the specific context of Emilia-Romagna, where a network has been established and called Coordinamento Teatro e Salute Mentale [Theatre and Mental Health Coordination]. We go back over the history of this experience, its significance, focusing on assessment and monitoring processes activated to support the project, tools which can be generalized to other similar experiences.
