Archéologie des épi/enzooties bovines
Abstract
The archaeozoological analysis of medieval bovine skeletons discovered in France in the area of the “Porte de Bourgogne” (Doubs, Haute-Saône, Territoire-de-Belfort, Swiss Jura) suggests that some of these deposits are linked with past episodes of infectious mortality in cattle herds. From this hypothesis results a reflection on the methods of archaeozoological identification of serious episodes of medieval livestock mortality as well as on the societal impact of these events.
