Self-mutilating behavior in a 2-year-old girl unveiling the diagnosis of a rare entity – Midface toddler excoriation syndrome
Abstract
Midface toddler excoriation syndrome (MiTES) is a less severe form of hereditary sensory-autonomic neuropathy Type VIII characterised by self-inflicted excoriations. This condition frequently affects toddlers, who may exhibit very high levels of pain tolerance. A 2-year-old girl presented with itchy lesions on the face of 6 months duration. The diagnosis of MiTES was established by ruling out other differential diagnoses based on history and clinical examination. This case emphasizes the need for early recognition of this entity.
