Sri Dattarama's Ajirna Manjari – A Discrete Reference Book on Indigestion

Objectives: Ajirna manjari is a discrete reference book on indigestion authored by Sri Dattarama on multitudinous facets of indigestion. This Samskrita language based text authored in earlier part of nineteenth century. As it is a short reference book it contains only 105 verses and there are no chapter divisions. To review the important concepts and advancement of Ajirna manjari; To perform literary analysis on Ajirna manjari and Ajirnamrita manjari text books. Data Source: All printed version of Ajirna manjari and Ajirnamrita manjari with Hindi and English translations were procured for this literature study. Review Methods: Initially literary search has been done verse by verse to find out the basic structure, details of author, time of inscription, language usage and important concepts narrated in Ajirna manjari. Further advancement of Ajirna manjari is explored by considering six such similar works. As it has close connection with Ajirnamrita manjari, their relationship is tried to establish by clearing dubieties. Results: Crux of the text is, single drug and varied number of counter food articles and 35 formulations for the treatment of indigestion. Rigorous quest disclosed more than 35 genre of Ajirna manjari and related manuscripts are found across India and overseas. Current text underwent six adaptations in due course of time. Among these, Ajirna manjari is having close connection Ajirnamrita manjari. Conclusion: Ajirna manjari is an exceptional and exclusive reference book on indigestion available in Ayurveda. Six fold adaptations of Ajirna manjari suggests that it is a updated version of Ajirnamrita manjari text.
