The present work, which consists of two parts, does not claim to be exhaustive but wants to be a contribution to the study of the war in central-southern Italy in the fourteenth century. The first part will illustrate the most known mercenary Condotte that fought on Italian soil in the Fourteenth century. However, this is not a survey of the individual companies but of the ethnic-regional compositions from which the actual conduct originated. In the second part, instead, the reconstruction of a battle will be proposed to demonstrate how the different techniques of war can influence conflicts in an unexpected way. For the present work we will use all the Italian chronicle and, where possible and / or necessary, also foreign ones such as Jean de Froissart or the more detailed, but less known, La Chronique des quatre premiers Valois.
