The sector of building rehabilitation or renovation is one of the most promising areas in Brazil. However, the Brazilian expertise in this kind of design and to guarantee the quality of the construction as well as the feasibility of maintenance operations of building renovation is still deficient. Moreover, because of the fact that the greatest part of the Brazilian standards concerns the new construction, the rehabilitation and renovation design can become impracticable. Therefore, renovation and its design process show some difficulties and questions to be answered. In addition, renovation projects require a greater integration between their phases. Some studies showed that the integrated design process is more advantageous than the sequential one. Furthermore, they also suggested that the French design process is more integrated than sequential when compared to the Brazilian. Thus, based on a French case study, this paper aims to make a comparative analysis between the integrated and the sequential design processes of building facades renovation and analyze if the French design process can serve as a reference model to the Brazilian sector of buildings renovation. In conclusion, the French design process, although partially integrated, have more advantages than the Brazilian one and it is useful as a model for this one because of the integration of its activities in the initial stages of the design process, the good content of each one of these stages, as well as the existence of the design and the construction site coordinators.
