Cham Folk Music

Abstract

The Cham people possess a rich music tradition that was developed very early in the people history. To Cham people, music is sacred, unworldly and pure language. It is a language as medium of exchange between human beings with the deities. From cradle to grave, music accompany the Cham people. The Cham music is valuable in terms of musicology and for the spiritual life of the people. It has been proven that Cham folk music reaches a very developed degree in terms of art, the way organization and musical instrument kinds. With the result, the Cham music has a certain influence over the people in Vietnamese community as well as some countries in Southeast Asia.
