Life, learning and flexible delivery

Abstract

This paper explores the thesis that flexible learning is a critical development in assuring high quality educational provision for individuals at all stages of their lives, but that there are dangers it will be compromised by the actions of education professionals. The antecedents, concept and scope of flexible learning are discussed, as are the implications of flexible learning for existing models of educational provision, the role of teachers, the potential for encouraging learner-centredness, and the significance for lifelong learning. This paper was presented as a keynote address to the 1995 Distance Education Association of New Zealand Conference in Auckland.
