The distributed array radar (DAR) increases the aperture size of radar by coherently synthesising distributed sub-arrays. These sub-arrays form a long baseline, large array, and are capable of improving the angular resolution and detection range of targets. The DAR brings more freedom in the designing of large physical aperture array radar. This study demonstrates a distributed digital array radar experimental system, which can be used for the DAR principle experiment and performance test. This system combines the advantages of ultra-wideband antenna and digital array radar, and enables the array aperture to be reconstructed flexibly in both horizontal and vertical. The system can be used to optimise DAR systems for different array size requirements. A description of system design is demonstrated, while the key performance is briefly analysed.
