The consonance of views on the plurality of languages and cultures of N.S. Trubetskoy and Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukai’s work is established in this article. The multicultural environment of Uralsk influenced the national identity of Gabdulla Tukai, based on the dialogic perception of Tatar, Russian, Kazakh, European and oriental cultures. The nationalism of G. Tukai, based on the ideas of serving the nation, its progress, and familiarizing with the values of European and Russian cultures, resonates with N. Trubetskoy's idea of true nationalism, opposed to the idea of impersonal universal culture.
