The problem is analyzed from the position of labor social psychology in the context of works aimed at studying professional success of the labor subject in performing certain work. The empirical study examines the components of professional mentality (value orientations and the components of the individual style of self-regulation of an arbitrary behavior) that are crucial regulators of an arbitrary activity and interpersonal interaction, influencing the effectiveness, the quality and the productivity of labor. The obtained empirical facts have helped reveal the hierarchy of value orientations of substitute parents and obtain a regulatory profile typical for this professional group. Besides, a number of problems in maintaining substitute parents’ professional mentality were identified. The presence of substitute parents can negatively affect the well-being and vitality of a professional foster family.
