Perinatal encephalopathy hypoxic-ischemic (HIE) moderate-severe is a disease with a high risk of mortality and morbidity. Hypothermia is a neuroprotective therapy useful improving the prognosis in term newborns with HIE. This is a case report at Neiva Huila of a newborn who suffered severe perinatal HIE and got hypothermia therapy. Neurological evaluation, three months after treatment, showed an adequate tone and suction. In this case, hypothermia therapy was an effective measure for treatment of HIE, it could decrease mortality and neurological damage.
