Determination of differences in morphology between sapwood and heartwood cells of Pinus pinea and Robinia pseudoacacia

Abstract

In this study, the differences between sapwood and heartwood in fiber morphology on the samples prepared from Pinus pinea and Robinia pseudoacacia were investigated. For this aim, cell length, cell width, lumen width, wall thicknesses were measured. The measurements were made on sapwood and heartwood wood, separately. In the maceration process, chlorite method was used. The differences between sapwood and heartwood wood were determined with T test. According to obtained findings, cell length of sapwood wood and heartwood wood of the Pinus pinea and Robinia pseudoacacia were different significantly. But, the same differences were insignificant for cell width, wall thickness and luminal diameter.
