Peculiarities of English Shakespearian Romantic Canon

Abstract

The main aim of the article is to show how romanticists changed the preceding canon according to their world outlook and views. They tried to imagine themselves as Shakespeare’s contemporaries and co-authors, as part of his world, avoiding the reality of the poet and playwright and his critics’ opinion. They were the only ones to have been able to treat Shakespeare as their literary contemporary.
