This paper proposes to rescue the beginning of the political trajectory of former governor Miguel Arraes, interrupted with the coup of 64, responsible for his deposition of the Government, imprisonment and exile of 14 years. It also seeks to situate the actions developed by the former governor and the reactions they provoked, starting from the national historical moment, evaluating the facts that led to the breakdown of the democratic order. Finally, we intend to explain the emergence of the Arraes myth, as much by the visceral connection that established with the poorest layers of the population, as by the behavior assumed before the rhyllites, by the prison in an inaccessible island and, finally, by what he himself called exile for Africa. Such facts created around him a halo of mystery and fetish.
