In this work, we propose novel structures of one-dimensional ternary planar photonic crystals (1D-TPPC) consisting of periodic unit cells of dispersive materials. The transfer matrix method (TMM) is utilized to investigate the propagation of the electromagnetic radiation in the proposed structure. The transmittance spectrum and Floquet-Bloch theorem are used to determine the features of the photonic band gap (PBG) for the transverse electric (TE) mode of the incident radiation. In particular, the photonic band gap width (PBGW) is studied as a function of the number of unit cells, thicknesses of layers, angle of the incidence and temperature. Based on the results obtained, the proposed structures are believed to be promising in designing wide angle infrared reflectors.
