AN OVERVIEW OF THE FOLK REPERTOIRE FOR VIOLIN OF THE BUCOVENIAN FIDDLER A. BIDIREL
Abstract
In this article will be highlighted the folk repertoire of violinist-fi ddler Alexandru Bidirel. He is a known as a violinistfi ddler of oral tradition, who worked in the mid-twentieth century, who was appreciated by musicians and researchers in the Romanian area as a standard of stylistic and artistic conduct regarding the interpretation on the fi ddle of the traditional music from Bucovina. His repertoire is unique and requires a scientifi c revaluation, but, also, a revaluation as an element of the intangible cultural heritage. In the Romanian ethnomusicological literature we can fi nd little information about Alexandru Bidirel. We can mention the Ethnography and Folklore Magazine, in which is published an article by the ethnomusicologist Tiberiu Alexandru, and a number of unpublished manuscripts of Alexander Voevidca, but also, a series of sound documents which are in the heritage I.C.E.D. under the name of the catalog Fg. 4234-4242, recorded by Constantin Brăiloiu in an expedition carried out in the village Capul-Codrului, former district Câmpulung, on September 11, 1934.
