Osteoporosis, Education Status and Knowledge Level Research Results
Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between knowledge of osteoporosis and other variables such as educational level and economic factors. A total of 464 women and 94 men were included in the study. Average age was 46 years. Age, job, education, knowledge of osteoporosis, clothing style of the participants were recorded. Spearman correlation test and chi-squared test were used for statistical analysis. % 50.1 of person were graduated from the university, % 13.2 from high school and % 3.8 were illiterate. Fourty four percent of individuals declared that they were aware of osteoporosis, however %56 were unaware of the disease. Statistically significant positive correlation was found between knowledge of osteoporosis and individuals education levels. Osteoporosis was negatively correlated with modern clothing style. In conclusion, increasing levels of osteoporosis awareness associated with education level. Low education level can explain poor osteoporosis knowledge.
