MATERIALS USED IN THE COMBATAVIATIONCONSTRUCTION
Abstract
In this work, anattempt was madeto apply laser surface technology for enhancement of the properties and strengtheningthe material with addition of ceramic phases intheform of silicon and tungsten carbide particles, leading toaremarkableincreasein hardness. Thanks to rapid cooling causedbyheat being transferredto the cold substrate,an advantageous, fine-grained structure develops, showinghigher gradient morphology;furthermore, the surface layers obtained with laser alloying offer greaterheat-resistanceand anti-corrosion properties, as well ashigh wear resistance in addition to the aforementionedhardness, which increases by as much as15% for the AlSi9Cu4 alloy compared withthe alloy after standard heat treatment. Such anincrease in thevalues of the mechanical properties makes it possible to use the investigated alloy inapplications including,e.g.,recyclablethermally exposed surfaces, such aspistons ininternal combustion engines, which enablesfurther decrease in the weight and the thermal expansion with simultaneous increase in the strength, reduction infuel consumption, and increaseincarrying load, speed, and range, which generates the needforfurther research into the area.
