Il consenso delle sinistre italiane all’integrazione europea (1950-1969)

Abstract

This paper investigates the role of the Italian Left political parties and the complex process towards their consensus to the integration of Italy into the European Union after years of debated rejection positions against the EU project. In order to better develop such an analysis, the following research focuses on two political parties, namely the PCI and PSI. The following research will be carried out by identifying four significant moments in the European and Italian history: 1950: when the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) was founded; 1956-1957: when the XX CPSU Congress took place, the so-called “frontismo” broke up in Italy and the Treatises of Rome were signed and the European Economic Community was rising; 1962-1963, a turning point for the Communists represented by the conference hold at Istituto Gramsci on “Directions of the Italian Capitalism”; 1969, when the Italian Left political delegates entered the EP.
