The article deals with the issue of teaching professionally oriented scientific writing to future teachers of English in terms of working out the subsystem of exercises. The article provides the analysis of the relevant learning stages; it also displays the specific requirements to be followed while developing the exercises on all the components levels: setting the task, task performance, and checkup. The article also offers exercise samples within the exercise complex for teaching conference abstract writing in accordance with the outlined stages of the subsystem.
