The use of virtual reality in crime scene investigation

Crime scene investigators are responsible for the identification, collection, packaging and storage of physical evidence discovered at the crime scene, which is the basis for conducting proper investigation. In line with technological development, the crime scene investigation increasingly involves the use of advanced technologies with the aim of creating a virtual reality that should facilitate the investigators' work. In this paper, the author examines the concept of virtual reality (VR) and some types of extended reality (XR, AR, MR). The central part of the paper focuses on different methods of visualization of the crime scene by using VR technology. The last part of the paper focuses on to the use of VR by students for educational purposes.
